WORKSHOPS
Into the Looking Glass: The masks we wear, the soul within
Participants will reflect on how they perceive themselves
and how others perceive them. They will be asked to
meditate on what aspects of themselves they show to
other people and how it differs from their inner feelings.
Most of the workshop consists of participants painting
and decorating a mask, on the outside they decorate it
to reflect what they allow other people to see, on the
inside of the mask they decorate it with how they are
feeling inside.
Once the masks are completed, participants are welcome to share their mask with the rest of the group. For some people this is a very emotional experience as they begin to realize ways in which they protect themselves or ways in which they are not true to themselves. In conducting this workshop in the past, I have seen this activity be a powerful tool as people discover new things about themselves. It has resulted in individuals deciding they need to reach out to people in their lives and ask for help, or ask for what their soul longs for.
This is a powerful activity for all ages. There are many influences in today’s society that encourage us to disconnect from our true selves and “buy” into a way of living and set of values that does not work for many people. This activity aids in discovering areas in our life where we can make different choices that will allow our truth to be reflected in the mirror.
