"I received instant, honest and unbiased feedback from the horse. Though the horse I learned my strenghths and weaknesses and also about myself. I also learned to visualize what I want to happen and to have a clear path leading toward my goal"

WHY HORSES?
Humans are predators and horses are prey. As prey animals, horses have survived for thousands of years because of their keen ability to be aware of their surroundings. Because their life literally depended on this astute awareness, they have maintained a highly developed ability to respond to suble changes in body energies, body positions, muscle tension and breathing patterns.
In the wild setting, horses became acutely aware of when the predators (i.e., mountain lion) were a threat or merely passing through the territory. Therefore, the horse uses this awareness during their human experiences. Thus, they are able to detect the intent or inconsistencies from their human handler.
In addition, horses have a strong connection to the unit called the herd and communicate very effectively through non-verbal cues. By observing the non-verbal communications of the horse, EFL services have the ability to use metaphors into human behaviors, communication skills and relationships, to name a few.
What Does an Equine Facilitated Learning Session Look Like?
The focus of EFL is not on riding or horsemanship, rather, the intent is self-awareness and personal growth. First, we offer the opportunity to observe herd dynamics and non-verbal communications within the herd. This is followed by active and passive participation in exercises with participants on the ground, not on the horse, in an arena with professional guidance and gentle support.. These exercises provide the participant the ability to become more aware of internal and external patterns they have developed throughout their life time. Throughout the exercises, Natural Freedom services focuses on developing the horse/human relationship by encouraging the participant to monitor the horses non-verbal cues to the exercises, The horse mirrors the handler and will be a direct reflection of the handlers thoughts, emotions and body language. This unique self-development educational approach provides the opportunity to practice inner awareness and concious decision-making skills. After old patterns are brought to light, the participant is provided the opportunity to explore new techniques to change (breathing and energy ) patterns that may prove to be more conducive to where the client chooses to be personally or professionally.
